Our Approach

Who We Are

Personnel

Dr. Daniel Lesnick established Italy Adagio in 1983 and has owned and operated it continuously ever since. Fluent in Italian, he personally does all of the planning and arranging (hotels, guides, transportation, etc.), and personally escorts all Italy Adagio tours. Over the last thirty years he has taken more than 600 guests (in more than forty small groups) on his tours of Italy. Many of his guests return for second, third, and fourth tours – and many of them bring their friends!

Having taught ancient, medieval, and Renaissance history for over thirty years, Dr. Lesnick retired from full-time teaching in 2008 and is Associate Professor Emeritus at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is also a Lifetime Fellow of the American Academy in Rome, a past Fellow of the Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies in Florence, and twice winner of Fulbright fellowships to Italy.

Dr. Lesnick has lived in Italy for a total of ten+ years since 1969, studying and conducting historical research on topics including Preaching in Medieval Florence, Criminal Activity in Medieval and Renaissance Todi, and Italian Microhistory. He combines his many years’ experience of living in Italy, scholarly knowledge, and expertise arranging and leading Italy Adagio tours to ensure that guests enjoy the best that Italian culture and life have to offer.

All of our guides are fluent in both English and Italian and are long-time experts in the field. Each guide is personally chosen by Dr. Lesnick and works closely with him to fulfill the philosophy and goals of Italy Adagio.
